Just like any industry, there are bad players who would rather make a quick buck than conduct and promote business practices that ensure their and the industry’s long term viability. To put it simply, there are lumber companies that act like modern-day pirates. They will invade and pillage anywhere they can, regardless of the consequences.

Some lumber companies don't care about what get's left behind. There is a better way!

I’ve just heard that there is a truck decking company that, after clear cutting hundreds of acres in Malaysia for Apitong, they have now set their sites on Brazil. This despicable company has already demonstrated that they have zero regard for the environment and are intent on giving environmentally responsible lumber companies bad press. Frankly, we are sick of these companies and are calling their practices out for what they really are. Not all lumber companies are the same…

Just because we sell lumber doesn’t mean that we endorse and practice clear-cutting and blatant deforestation. Unlike other unscrupulous companies, Advantage Trim & Lumber is the leader in sustainable forestry practices. We practice what we preach by partnering with the Forest Stewardship Council as a FSC Chain of Custody company and by being members of the United States Green Building Council.

We understand that there are legitimate concerns about deforestation, this is why we:

  • Harvest fallen and dead trees so that new trees can grow
  • Harvest trees that no longer produce seeds
  • Plant five new trees for every one that has been cut
  • Endorse and practice selective logging

So, if you’re considering buying truck decking, ipe decking, or any other hardwood material, be 100% certain that you’re dealing with a company that doesn’t blatantly destroy the environment.

I’ve mentioned the fact that Advantage recently just received a fresh new supply of Mexican cocobolo. What I haven’t told you is the journey that the owner of Advantage Trim & Lumber, Rob Pelc went through to actually get it. He pretty much is lucky to be back given the fact that, for a brief time, he was left alone in the jungle of the Mexico while his guide went to find their horses. So, what does a guy do when stranded in the middle of miles and miles of forest?

Cue the Indiana Jones music…

Cocobolo is highly-prized for its beauty, rarity, and exceptional turning ability. Woodworkers enjoy using this exotic hardwood because they can make many high end products that are attractive and in high demand. One such item is cocobolo pens. These executive pens are, quite frankly, stunning and make a bold statement.

At Advantage Trim & Lumber, we have our very own Cocobolo experts that can make sure you get just the right amount of this Mexican hardwood.

The town of Silverthorne, Colorado recently announced that their newest bridge over the Blue River will use ipe wood. According the this news article on the Blue River Bridge, they chose to use ipe because of its “70 year life expectancy.” I bet they will be thrilled 70 years from now when the future citizens realize that they will have at least another 30 years of use out of their ipe bridge choice!

Once again, this proves that for high end applications, or commercial applications that require a resilient hardwood, this exotic hardwood from Brazil is the best choice. The town of Silverthorne has chosen a wood that can and will hold up against the harsh winters that are sure to bring snow and a ton of moisture to the area.

If you’re wondering what other bridges would use ipe, how about the Brooklyn Bridge? Truly one of America’s greatest architectural landmarks, the Brooklyn Bridge walkway is truly a breathtaking experience.

At Advantage, we have supplied wholesale ipe decking for a whole host of applications. So, if you’re looking for a wholesale lumber supplier of exotic hardwoods and are sick of getting obscenely priced bids, contact us. Better yet, we can ensure that you get your containers in days so your project won’t wait weeks, or months for your shipment.

Once again, while searching for composite decking reviews, I was once again struck by how many people regret spending their hard earned money on an expensive, yet inferior product. It’s no secret that I am not a fan of composite decking. However, my reasons are not because I think the decking is ugly or that the cost is too high. On the contrary, I hate to see people save, plan, and then build a deck, only to have it crumble or worse, transform before their eyes. What do I mean? Well, just take a look at these pictures:

Composite Deck Problems

Need further proof that composite decking is not all that it’s cracked up to be? I’ve posted these before, but it’s worth noting again that the US Government has already warned consumers about plastic decking. All of these issues, problems and composite decking complaints make you wonder…is composite decking the next asbestos?

Oh, and here’s some info on a pending composite decking lawsuit too.

Using hardwood once again is the best option for all your decking needs.
