Thank you for your question!
Applying an oil finish to the underside of the board is something that we suggest doing on at least the first application. This will help keep the moisture content on the either side of the board even. The importance of this is that after installation it will help prevent the decking from doing any major movement while the material becomes further acclimated to the conditions in which it is installed in.

Allow the material to acclimate for about a week on site leaving it stacked and uncovered where it will be installed. Clean both surfaces off the wood; allow to dry for about 24 hours. Then apply the oil finish to both sides of the board using a paint roller. Allow the decking to dry for about 10 minutes then wipe any access oil off the surface’s of the material using a rag. Install the decking. Apply a second coat to the surface of the material about 6-8 months later and then as needed after that, which on average is every year to every other year.

I hope this helps answer some of your questions. Please let us know if there is anything else I can help you with, thank you for your time.

Dear Sir/madam

I learned form this web site that I should not apply deck oil on Ipe wood after it is acclimated and installed. Should I concern the side and the bottom of the wood that the oil cannot be applied after the wood is installed?

Thanks
