Advantage Lumber, LLC today announced they will now manufacture a variety of FSC certified hardwood materials in their North Carolina location. The company has a long standing of importing, manufacturing, and distributing Ipe Decking (Brazilian Walnut), from managed forest. Obtaining the highly coveted FSC certification is just part of the company’s effort to be more eco-friendly and capture a larger percentage of the growing green building market.

“Over the past year we have noticed a steady increase in customers calling for FSC certified hardwood flooring and decking. We have always practiced responsible forest management in the harvesting of all our hardwood species….our new FSC certification takes our continuing commitment to the next level” said Dan Ivancic the companies Director of Marketing.

The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. Advantage Lumber, LLC is audited annually by Bureau Veritas, an independent auditor for FSC who ensures all environmental standards are met.

“Our initial productions will be FSC Ipe Decking as well as FSC Tigerwood Decking, but we will custom produce a variety of decking and flooring items for customers upon request” continued Ivancic. “Summer is almost near and we are focusing on helping green home builders with their current hardwood projects.”

FSC certified products have become a key component for inclusion in LEED projects, the leading authority for green building certification. Ivancic noted that in order to qualify for LEED points on your green build you must use a percentage of FSC certified wood, the percentages may vary depending on your type of build. You also need to work with a vendor that is familiar with the LEED points system so your documentation and invoices match the LEED requirements.
