The Winners

1st Place - Karen L - Tigerwood Slab Dinning Table

Boston, NY - My husband built this Tiger Wood table and matching benches from 2 slabs of wood. We started to build our house in 2009 and decided to incorporate our large extended family into our kitchen plans. We designed our kitchen to hold a large kitchen table. We found this product and went with it! We used pipe to gain that rustic look, and were successful to seat 22 people at our 14' Tiger Wood table for our 1st Thanksgiving dinner.

2nd Place - Mary H - Numerous Wood Slab Projects

Helena, MT - Mary submitted a few wood slab projects to out contest. They include the following projects:

3rd Place - Bryant T - Angelim Pedra Wet Bar

East Aurora, NY - This project was a pantry/beverage center remodel. I created the pantry counter with a slab of Angelim Pedra. The sink was fabricated by a local welder and was made out of a keg that was cut in half. The area features a sink, shelving and a kegerator.

Adam R - Slab Dining Table

Mechanicsville, VA - This is a character slab of boxelder I made for my wife. Table top is finished with a clear epoxy finish. And metal hairpin legs. In the voides in the slab I filled it with seashells from our family vacations. One of the holes goes all the way through so when the light shines on it you can see a reflection on the ground below the table.

Doug K - Vintage Edison Light Bulb Fixture

Matwan, NJ - My project is a vintage Edison light bulb fixture featuring a monkey pod live edge wood slab. The concept was born out of seeing a gorgeous chandelier in a Restoration Hardware catalog a few months ago. There was just one problem, it cost over $5,800! Necessity being the mother of invention, I challenged myself to design and build my own awe-inspiring fixture. After a few weeks of considering different concepts and designs, I stumbled across the use of a reclaimed wood beam as the base. However, I felt I could do better and wanted to kick it up a notch. A searched the web for live edge wood slabs and found several companies, both local and across the country. However, Advantage Lumber had not only a wildly diverse inventory, but the pictures, description and ease of narrowing down my options made them the clear choice for me. Other companies, if they had their prices posted, did not come close to providing quality material at an insanely reasonably price like Advantage Lumber. After waiting just a few days for delivery, I knew the moment I opened the perfectly packaged piece of nature that I was headed on a very special journey. Besides the semi-gloss clear-coated slab, I used black twisted rayon covered wire, aged bronze hardware and nine antique Edison style light bulbs to give the fixture an old fashion feel, which easily complimented the warmth provided by the reddish-brown tones in the monkey pod wood. Since the fixture is viewable from all angles, it was critical that every detail, including the power wire, was flawless. Soon after I completed my project, I searched the Internet for similar items to get an idea of retail prices. I was shocked to see [somewhat] comparable light fixtures beginning at 3-4 times the cost for my project (which was only $350). With the wood slab representing the largest part of the budget, I was able to not only save a significant amount of money but it allows me to continue my new found hobby without breaking the bank. Take it from me, if you have some basic skills, you can easily create an heirloom and have it look like a million bucks! Thanks to Advantage Lumber, I can't wait to start creating more unique and stunning works of functional art for friends and family.

Chris T - Cumaru Wet Bar

Lewiston, NY - This live edge cumaru slab was used as a counter top for a wet bar. It looked great in this customers man cave! We sealed it with a layer of epoxy.
