DESCRIPTION Creamy white sapwood with faint brown grain lines, heartwood varies from brown to a brown green. “Birds eye” is a burl type figure.It looks like tight swirls in the grain which create an “eye” appearance. The figure varies in intensity the best of which can have 30 or more “eyes” per square inch.These eyes which are present randomly through out some hard maple trees range in size from 1/16” to 3/8” average diameter.

USES Furniture, turnery, veneer, high end automobile interior accessories and trim, flooring, pool cues.
COMMENTS Birds eye maple is very sought after. Much of the high caliber material is sold at auctions for as high as $50000 per 1000 board feet. There is no definitive known cause of birds eye maple. How ever much research has been done.
