This expansive 512-square-foot outdoor living space in Chicago, Illinois, was meticulously crafted using thick 5/4x6 Cumaru hardwood. Cumaru is an outstanding choice for harsh Midwestern climates, as its extreme density prevents moisture absorption and successfully resists the damage caused by heavy snow and freezing temperatures. The deck boards and stairs were flawlessly installed using hidden fastener clips for a smooth, barefoot-friendly surface.

The project also includes beautiful built-in benches, constructed with Cumaru boards securely face-screwed and plugged. Finished with a protective coat of hardwood oil (Ipe Oil), this incredibly strong, low-maintenance deck completely transformed the backyard.
